Tai Gi Competition

The Shin Gi Tai Aikido Society hosts an annual Tai Gi Competition during the Summer School. Each dojo may enter one team, made up of two members from their club. All teams perform the three Tai Gi from the Society syllabus and are assessed by a Society Shihan.

Entry Requirements

  • Each dojo may submit one pair as their team.
  • Teams may consist of any grades, and we particularly encourage Kyu grades and Junior Yudansha to take part.
  • There is no entry fee.

Judging Criteria

Teams are evaluated on:

  • Rhythm
  • Harmony
  • Calmness and composure
  • Technical proficiency
  • Timing (Ryotedori Tai Gi only)

Scores from all criteria are combined, and the team with the highest total score wins.

Training Expectations

To perform well, the Society recommends that partners train together on the Tai Gi for several months before the event. This helps develop the qualities of coordination, timing, and technical skill required for competition.

Attendance and Forfeit

Teams who do not attend on the day of the competition will forfeit their entry.

Awards

The winning team earns honour for their dojo, and their names are added to the Society Competition Shield.
